More on the ALS from the DepEd

This is another document I saw today about the Alternative Learning System (ALS) of the Department of Education but this is one is about the Unified Guidelines for the ALS Contracting Scheme.

Serendipity today!

I was looking for an image of the eSkwela project today but after finding the image below I serendipitiously discovered the website of eskwela.orgI later found out that instead of finding a simple image, I discovered that this website had  some digitized modules of the ALS eSkwela program of the Department of Education(DepEd).  It's a Moodle-hosted website so I had to sign-up as a member of the site before I saw all of its resources.  The site also has some of the PDF version of the ALS learning modules as can be seen below.  I still don't know who owns the site but I found out that most members come from San Fernando City, La Union.  I have seen these modules in print before way back ten years ago in Payatas, Quezon City, when the ALS used to be called NFE A&E, but I have never seen the digitized version of the modules. So I was very happy when I serendipitiously discovered them today!

Amazon.com: The Computer Clubhouse: Constructionism and Creativity in Youth Communities

In the BSJ-CLT eCenter Project, our flagship program is the ALS eSkwela which is under the Department of Education's Bureau of Alternative Learning System(BALS). But apart from the ALS eSkwela program for out-of-school-youth and adults, we are also doing the interest-based learning program for learners from ages ten to eighteen years old.  It will be called the BSJ-CLT Computer Clubhouse and it is modeled from the Intel Computer Clubhouse which was able to put up three centers in Makati, Bacoor and Gen. Trias, Cavite.  I visited the Intel Computer Clubhouse website today and found out that they have a new book, "The Computer Clubhouse: Constructionism and Creativity in Youth Communities". Now I'm reading it to learn more about the computer clubhouse model which we are doing now in the BSJ-CLT eCenter Project!

The BSJ-CLT eLearning Center Project in pictures

The Brgy. San Juan-Constructing Learning Through Technology(BSJ-CLT) Project is a community elearning center(CEC) initiated by the barangay oficials of Brgy.San Juan, Taytay, Rizal headed by Brgy. Capt. Joseph Valera with the great help and in collaboration with Constructing Learning Through Technology(CLT) by Jon Mannion. The project aims to provide learning opportunities using ICT technologies like computers and the Internet to out-of-school youth and adults of the community. The flagship program of the BSJ-CLT CEC Project is the Alternative Learning System(ALS) eSkwela program under the Department of Education(DepEd). ALS eSkwela is a delivery mode of DepED’s Alternative Learning System (ALS).  It is a project geared towards providing ICT-enhanced education to the marginalized out-of-school youth and adults.  Here are the pictures of the project as of this time!

A unique learning model

Yesterday was another volunteer involvement (VOLT-IN) day for the Brgy. San Juan eCenter Project in Brgy. San Juan, Taytay, Rizal.  About more than ten college students from  two nearby colleges were there to attend the orientation day for prospective volunteers.  Thanks a lot to all the prospective VOLTS who want to put more brain and muscle into the program.  We also had discussions about the computer clubhouse model and the learning programs that we are going to do in the centers. Most  volunteers were just receptive of  the  computer clubhouse model or interest-based learning but there were some who had a different reaction and who were not all that fully sold to the clubhouse model of learning. This made me ponder why. And I can just surmise that maybe we are not really used to this unique model of learning, hence, the unfamiliarity, breeds some sort of 'fear', in our part to try it out for ourselves.  Maybe the 'fear' or unfamiliarity is justified for some reasons but still, my gut feeling tells me that this learning model deserves a try and I am hoping that this model would be a big success in the Brgy. San Juan eCenter Project!

My self-intro in the BSJ FB Mentor Discussion Group

I thought that a self-introduction would be useful in the Brgy San Juan Mentor Discussion Group so I made one using Broadcastr.com.  It's an amazing website where anyone can post an audio recording and pin the recording in a map.

Trying to make a poster, but in vain!

Today I tried to make a poster for the volunteering involvement (VOLT-IN) event for the Brgy. San Juan eCenter Project on November 12, 2011 but I think my efforts were in vain. I guess I'm not really good in making grapic designs so I leave it to Allan of Brgy. San Juan to make nice poster for the said event. One thing I learned though is that one can actually use DabbleBoard to make a collaborative drawing online and share it with others.
